Merry Christmas! Today & Every Day!

Each and every day is Christmas! Or it should be.

It can be. It is for me.

Google says Christmas is the occasion that is "celebrated to remember the birth of of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Son of God. The name 'Christmas' comes from the Mass of Christ," a service when Christians remember that Jesus died and came back to life. That's an occasion to celebrate every day, if you believe. Remembrances don't have to be held to one day a year, we can remember the truth of Christmas every day. And Christians should.

Not a Christian? The joy of Christmas is still for you. The ritual of gift giving, especially to those in need, is what good, civic-minded people do! Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, Père Noël, Father Christmas, are all traced to the gift-giving monk who became St. Nicholas. Admired for his piety and kindness, St. Nicholas is said to have used his inheritance to help those in need. We celebrate our ability to give to others, and celebrate the acceptance of gifts given.

Merry Christmas, Happy remembering Christ! Or Happy Holidays and gift giving. May the joy of the lights of the season carry you through the winter!
